James Potter was born into a huge (and famous) family. His parents were both Hogwarts students: Harry Potter and Ginevra Weasley. Harry is probably the most famous wizard of all time, getting rid of Voldemort once and for all in his Seventh Year, and Ginny Weasley came from a family full of guys. Having a Ministry department head and a Daily Prophet reporter has its pros and cons, but what about the child himself?

We’ll start from the beginning: James Potter has lived around magic all of his life. He knew he was a wizard since before he even started at Hogwarts. Everything that went on in the household was pretty much done with magic. While his father went off to work at the Ministry of Magic, his mother took care of her (then) only child on her own. He didn’t notice all of the spells and weird language at first, because he didn’t understand the English language, but it would eventually become clear to him that he was going to be a wizard. After the births of siblings Albus and Lily, and when they got a little bit older and able to understand what was going on, Harry and Ginny sat them down and made it known:

The Potter family were magical. They explained most of what their lives were like, and how the kids would live their lives from that point on. Hogwarts was vaguely explained.

Being a wizard meant that James was able to do some pretty interesting things. The year before he started at Hogwarts, he attended the Qudditch World Cup final and met Viktor Krum, a friend of Harry.

Starting in 2015, Harry started his education at Hogwarts. Just like his parents, he was sorted into the Gryffindor house. Unlike his father, he didn’t get to join the Quidditch team in his First Year, but in his father’s style, he was a natural on the school-issued lesson brooms. Harry told James that he wasn’t going to join the Quidditch team until his Third Year – and that was true. The first Potter child earned his spot on the team, but not as a Seeker. He was a natural Chaser.

His goal throughout the years was to get grades superb enough to become an Auror in the Ministry of Magic. Upon receiving his OWL grades at the start of his Sixth Year, he learned that his goal in life was closer to happening; he earned marks high enough to continue Auror-related classes.

Personality-wise, his parents think he has traits handed down by many of his extended family members. While he loves Albus and Lily, he loves joking around and teasing them. He also has an ability to get into awkward situations. He once caught his cousin Victoire giving Teddy Lupin one hell of a liplock on the Hogwarts Express. In school, he seems to want to be left to his own devices when it comes to his studies, and his self-confidence level is through the roof; almost on par with a Ravenclaw’s.
